Vital energy from nature

Enjoy biodynamic produce from our own cultivation

The Bergerhof is the original “garden” of the Theiner family: 11 hectares of land where apples, pears, apricots, plums, peaches, nectarines, table grapes, persimmons, quinces and even pawpaws grow, complemented by the herb and vegetable garden on our hotel terrace. In 1981, we decided to take a step further and manage the Bergerhof biodynamically. If you would like to learn more about what this means, we invite you to take a walk along the educational trail through the Bergerhof fields. Here, you will discover how we strengthen our plants naturally and how Ingo Theiner understands what the soil and nature truly need.

It is not the material alone that matters, but the living relationships between earth, plant, animal and human.

What else you’ll find at the Bergerhof

Your room card also serves as your ticket to the educational trail at the Bergerhof. There, you will not only get a preview of the menus for the coming days, but also discover living decorative elements: the flowers from the farm are used for our table decorations and floral arrangements throughout the hotel. And by the way, even our applewood tables come from our own “harvest”!

Principles of biodynamic agriculture

Biodynamic agriculture is based on the teachings of Rudolf Steiner and forms part of the anthroposophical movement. It is rooted in the idea that we are constantly evolving and always striving for something higher. In the same way, we continuously seek to improve our farming practices and deepen our understanding of nature. A biodynamic farm aims to create a largely closed cycle, minimising the need for external inputs. Biodynamics is particularly known for the use of special preparations for soil and plant care. The underlying principle is to strengthen plants in such a way that they become naturally resilient to pests and extreme weather. Farming is also carried out in harmony with lunar cycles and, in part, even times of day..
