Why a good night’s sleep is so much more than just ‘closing your eyes’

Sleep is not a trivial matter, but a genuine time for the body and mind to recover.

Whilst you sleep, your body repairs itself, your brain processes the day’s experiences and your immune system recharges. So it’s no wonder that so many of our guests say they sleep better here than at home. This is no coincidence – there’s a well-thought-out concept behind it.

Our secrets to a good night’s sleep

1. Say goodbye to electromagnetic pollution. We’ve deliberately chosen not to have Wi-Fi in the rooms – if you need to go online, you’ll find it in the lobby or bar area, but the bedroom stays offline. Mobile phones, laptops and the like can take a break there, and your mind can truly switch off. Why not give it a go at home too: simply banish your mobile phone from the bedroom. You’ll be surprised at how good it feels.

2. Swiss stone pine instead of counting sheep. The scent of Swiss stone pine has been proven to have a calming effect, lower your heart rate and help you fall asleep more quickly and deeply. That’s why many of our rooms are furnished with local Swiss stone pine. Don’t have a Swiss stone pine room at home? No problem – a Swiss stone pine pillow does the trick too and brings a touch of mountain air right to your bed.

3. Natural materials that are truly good for you. Bed linen and towels made from certified organic cotton, clay walls that regulate humidity, real wood instead of plastic – all of this creates an indoor environment in which your body simply feels more at ease. Make sure to use natural materials at home too; it makes more of a difference than you might think.

4. A digital detox instead of constant screen time. No TV, no minibar, no Wi-Fi in the room – hardly anyone misses these things here. Instead: true tranquillity. Make a conscious effort to set aside a ‘screen-free hour’ at home before going to bed. A book, a cup of tea, a quiet chat – your sleep will thank you for it.

5. The right tea at the right time. A warm herbal tea in the evening is a little ritual that signals to body and mind: it’s time to wind down. Here, the herbs come straight from our own organic garden – why not try a relaxing herbal blend as part of your evening routine?

Your little bedtime ritual at home

You don’t have to check in with us straight away to sleep better (although we’d of course be delighted to welcome you to the Garden of Dreams at any time). Even a few small changes can make a big difference:

  • Keep your mobile phone out of the bedroom
  • Choose bed linen and pillows made from natural materials
  • Establish a ritual – tea, reading, a short relaxation exercise
  • Get some fresh air before going to bed
  • Stick to a regular bedtime, even at the weekend

A good night’s sleep isn’t a luxury, but something you should treat yourself to every day. We hope our experiences from theiner’s garten have inspired you a little – and if you ever need a proper break from everyday life, you know where to find us.
